Restored! Suzy & Pink Elephant

Before & After: Suzy & Pink Elephant

Bathed, brushed, and restuffed. A very gratifying transformation---old artificial fabrics don't always brighten up this much.
And I lost one of Pink Elephant's button eyes so looked for a replacement pair--slightly smaller--which I think suit better!

I especially like that Pink Elephant was locally made:

I found the original ad for the sleepy dog, from 1954--her name was Snoozy, but I think she likes Suzy better.
Suzy has a potato-sized rubber squeaker inside.
Weird ad copy:
"Snoozy" gets noisy when you disturb his snooze...
yelps when you pick him up...
yelps no matter how he's touched!

Not sure what to do with these. They came from a friend of a friend, who said she doesn't want them back.
I'm keeping the two bears that came too--Pink Grapefruit & Honey Mustard.

    1. Oh! That's great, k!
There's some (slim) chance that the original owner might want Suzy back--her childhood favorite---after seeing how great the restoration worked...
That is to say, *I* think she should take Suzy back, but she'd said she didn't want any of them back.

Honestly, I think people sometimes go too far with "Swedish death cleaning"--why not keep childhood favorites forever? Someone can donate them to the thrift store when you die (or throw them out)--big deal.

      Will let you know!

    2. PS. My friend who is the in-between person is texting photos to the original owner today.

    3. I just realized that suzy looks like the big one that I have. the eyes, nose, and tongue are gone but I sleep with it every night under my pillows. mine is probably 3 feet long -- something about being able to touch the paws is re-assuring. I understand the whole concept of "Swedish death cleaning" but getting rid of all of favorite toys is rather sad. I still have all of my dolls!! whatever the original owner decides is fine but there is a home waiting if needed!
and to echo linda sue great job on the restoration.

  2. They came back to life nicely! Good job Ms. Fixit! I should think that the original owner is mourning them and would love to have them back! I went through a purging years ago when all hope was lost...but then I started to replace my beloved toys through Ebay and etsy and antique shops...I only kept one original toy, Bubbles. Getting rid of all of my favorite toys was dumb-sad.

    1. What do you imagine—are they in an attic box? Or gone forever?
