Snorlax on Camino, 2011:
______________Yesterday I rescued this Faribo wool blanket (below) from the store's textile recycling bin. Someone had cut a big hole in it, but its "Fluff-Loomed" label is vintage. (The woolen mill later returned to its original spelling, "Faribault"--some of its history).
I priced the cut blanket $2.99 (intact, it lists for around $50 online). I'd have bought and repaired it myself, but I don't much like that green.
My family in childhood had drinking goblets ^ like these.
They are too heavy and knock-overable for me now.
_______________
Speaking of family--my sister sent me this photo of her with our brother. He'd met her for lunch during her recent trip out east. While he is in limited touch with her (unlike me), he's usually extremely stand-offish. But here he is, goofing around, so maybe he's happier now. I hope so.
And, in the photo on bottom--sister (left) and me.

Uh... so... I don't need to say, do I, that I am not a fan of Jordan Peterson?
Yeah. No. Not a fan of this guy who said Trump's victory is a good thing.
He does, however, (as Marz said), put forth one good idea:
Clean your room = Take care of your life.
Take up your life.
Take responsibility.
You matter. All of that.
Self-reliance, self-determination, self-respect, self-empowerment:
these are key teachings of liberation,
. . . from Jesus Christ ("The kingdom is within YOU.")
. . . to Gloria Steinem (“Without self-esteem, the only change is an exchange of masters; with it, there is no need for masters.”)
. . . to Malcolm X ("[The Black American] has to... know that he can stand on his own two feet.")
Great! Beyond that, I cannot go with Peterson and his muddled thinking. But then, he's not talking to me.
_____________
Politically, I'm more in line with Robert Reich's thinking here:
"Trump’s neofascism is here now.
Here are 10 things you can do to resist":

"America has deep problems, which is why we can’t give up. Protect the vulnerable, organize boycotts and keep fighting...What is giving me hope now
Finding room in life for joy, fun and laughter.
We cannot let Trump and his darkness take over.
Just as it’s important not to give up the fight, it’s critically important to take care of ourselves.
If we obsess about Trump and fall down the rabbit hole of outrage, worry and anxiety, we won’t be able to keep fighting."
This poster ^ was produced in GB as one of three 'Home Publicity' posters in 1939 --another being "Keep Calm and Carry On", wildly popular in modern times.
Your brother looks so much more like your dad now! I hope he has more peace, and maybe even some joy, in his life now.
ReplyDeleteWith all the corporations groveling at Rump’s feet, it feels like pretty soon we’ll need to boycott every business except Penzey’s and Costco. Really sucks to see companies I shop at (looking at you, Target) roll over (end DEI) without a whimper of protest.
Luckily —adding in the thrift store and dumpster diving, Penzey’s and Costco have most everything we need!
DeleteBut it’s revolting, isn’t it, to see all these powerful corporations caving? spineless
PS. I agree, my bro looks more like our father now--even a beard!
