I watched a documentary about Midnight Cowboy (1969) yesterday, Desperate souls, dark city and the legend of midnight cowboy (2022, Nancy Buirski)—much better than its title.
I’d loved MC, but it’s so sad I haven’t rewatched it in forty years. (Where did I even see it?) The doc included lots of clips, including a scene I’ve always remembered – – Joe Buck (Jon Voight) and Ratso Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman) dancing to keep warm to an advertising jingle playing on Joe’s transistor radio, “Orange juice on ice…”.
I looked up the radio so I could make a print—it’s a 1968 Zenith Royal 44. My print doesn’t quite catch it though—the antenna should be up—but that creates space problems. Hm. I just realized I could orient it the other way and add an extended antenna. Might try again… Tomorrow.
I doubt I could watch Midnight Cowboy again.
ReplyDeleteWatching the clips was wrenching enough!
Deletethat print is pretty damned good! COOL!. MC made me too sad and now I hate Jon, trumpster dick!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda Sue! I was surprised that Jon Voight spoke with such love and pride in the documentary about Midnight Cowboy. I mean, I’d hardly think it matches his current political views. But I don’t know that the guy makes a lot of sense…
DeleteThis and the typewriter print are excellent companion pieces. MC was too hard for me to stay in the theater and watch when it came out, I know I don't have the emotional stamina now. It's fascinating to watch your print collection grow.

Thanks, Ceci—I did laugh to see that I’m doing these old-fashioned communication devices, like the typewriter too. Maybe it’ll be a series. The telephone cord!!!
DeletePS. “Emotional stamina”—that’s a good way of putting it! I don’t have it either, but I did in my 20s—for movies, that is.
DeleteGood print!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, GZ!
