Can you tell…?

Asking for honest feedback, if you would be so kind:

Does this (my latest linoleum-cut print) read? Can you tell what the pink says, and what it references?

Also,  I’ve already talked about it here, so maybe you get the reference – – do you think you would get it if I hadn’t said?

I’m pleased with it but have no idea if it conveys any meaning, or what that would be.

Thanks, ya’ll!

    1. I’m glad it’s legible/-it’s a DRINK size of soda sold in gas stations-/the “Big Gulp”

    1. Very clever, read-sable and made me laugh because - what are YOU thirsty for- it would not be a big gulp , might be a whiskey drink. 32 oz !!

    2. I appreciate your feedback, Linda Sue! I cannot imagine drinking 32 ounces of anything, but maybe Irish coffee (whiskey yes) – – with whipped cream —yum—-lol

  5. I can easily read both the black and the pink but wouldn’t get the 32oz context without your background as I am not a soft drink person or a convenience store patron-clearly live in a bubble. Since I have your background it seems very on point for our over consuming society. Ceci

    1. Thanks for letting me know, Ceci. It’s good to know what references people get—or don’t.

  6. The a in what is backwards . Was that on purpose? It slowed me down reading the black . I could easily read 32 oz, but I didn't get the reference to the big gulp

    1. The backwards “a” was a mistake but I decided to leave it as looked kinda playfully wrong to me.
I did recarve the question mark however, which I had also carved the wrong way!

It’s hard to know how far you can stretch the shape of the alphabet and still be readable.
I’m glad the “32 ounces” is readable anyway, even if the reference is far from obvious – – thanks for letting me know, Anon.

  7. I didn't see the backward a until you mentioned it. I understand words can be missing many letters and still be read correctly.

    1. That’s good to know, Joanne—I’d rather counted on that phenomenon.

  8. The 32 oz is lost to me in the print.

I do love your idea- it inspires me to think about what I seek- what I am currently feeling— all sorts of things- 32oz being a symbol for all kinds of other unhealthful behaviors.

    1. Thanks Steph! I am considering outlining the pink “32oz.” in a bright lime green to make it more readable…
That’s awesome that it’s inspiring-/that’s my main thought—what do we live? Want? Need?
And what distracts or overwhelms us from that (like, maybe overconsumption).
