Reminder to self: Guinness & toffee

We'll steam like dumplings yet, but this summer is being weirdly nice here: I'm wearing a sweatshirt outside this early morning and I'm still chilly.  Yay!

Printmaking class is my favorite thing this summer. Below-- I carved the second panel of "The Moth Burial" last night in class.
Longtime friend KG (white hair) sat across from me.

The young guy ^ next to her is a classical singer and voice teacher, and the class got talking about music. My favorite was when he sang the tones from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Can you remember them to sing?
I can (close enough).

Page 2 of The Moth Burial  (below) isn't done, but enough to show you. (Oh, the first "u" is backwards!)
I want to print one long strip (for an accordion fold-up), but they'll be out of order because I'm not reverse-thinking the carving process all the way through. I carved page 1 on the left side of the board, so it will print as page 2 (as above).
Maybe I could cut the board in half?

I will carve pages 3/4 before print next week.  A limited edition!  Twelve prints.  I must think of a name for my publishing press.
Girlettes Ink.
Beer Float.

OMG--Linda Sue came up with the most decadent beer float:
Guinness stout with toffee ice cream.
I am going to try this some day!

Time to go to the dentist, then volunteering at the store.
Have a great day, or night!

    1. Fresca here:
GZ, I just went to the dentist and I mentioned the Guinness float to the dental assistant, and she said she was gonna go home and try it! But with the chocolate sea-salt ice cream she has at home.

  2. i'm surprised the dentist didn't look at you askance with that combination! ; ) the idea of an accordion is so fun. part of the fun of the lettering is that it doesn't have to be perfect in my opinion. and love the partial drawing of the girlettes. enough to have our brains fill in the rest.

    1. Lol, I know, Kirsten—I did hesitate to mention the float to the dentist:
“Let’s wash our teeth in acidic sugar!”
Thank you for feedback on the prints.

  3. Best wishes for the dentistry. I hope you get to watch the screen when the dentist fashions the crown. (Root canal, correct?)

I wonder if it’s possible to find Guinness-flavored ice cream in MN. I had some once at an indie ice cream place in LA — really wonderful. Michael Cera was there, but I don’t know what he had.

    1. Thanks—the dentist went well—I had indeed said it was a root canal but in fact it was just a crown (for a broken tooth).

Guinness-flavored ice-cream?! Never heard of it. Michael Cera—I kinda like him.

    2. Wait—was that a joke about Michael Cera? Cause he ran Bluth’s ice-cream stand?

  4. P.S.: I like the backwards “u.” I was thinking about the little tail on that letter last night while using my best printing on notes to granddaughters.

    1. Thanks—after all, the Girlettes are young and might well get it wrong. Not Penny Cooper of course! But some of the others.

  5. Guinness anything would be just right. Guinness on pancakes-sure why not? Guinness as a girlette name- absolutely- She could sell Paltrow products to the other girlettes. or just make them a little more happy.
The carving is great- I love them no matter what order they come out. Girlette order, which is non existent as you well know.
The orphans are getting ready for a convention but they think it is confection and they are all in! Everyone of them wants to be sarah huckleberry and deliver a speech to mayor Prairie dog. Maple wants to be marge greenery and wear big false teeth. Not sure how this will all turn out- will let you know...
