Keep Phones & Kids Safe; Photo round-up

Ooh, my apartment-owner just came to check my bathtub drain, which was draining slowly.
And.... Omg, THE HAIR! The wet wads he pulled out were like a horror movie.

Sometimes there's a simple solution:
clean the drain.

OOOooooooh.

Another simple solution, from yesterday's NPR: “How you can stop spam texts"Register your phone at the National Do Not Call.
HERE:
 www.donotcall.gov

I just did--super easy, they just ask for your phone # and email (they send you a link to confirm)--the website looks like this:

NPR says, "Older adults might be more resistant to scams:
People age 65 and older don't answer calls or texts from an unknown source ––and are twice as likely to be registered with the National Do Not Call Registry or similar services."

"The Do Not Call Registry stops unwanted sales calls — live calls or robocalls — from real companies that follow the law."
(Of course that's not rip-off artists, but it's something.)

"A birthday photo reveals a kid's age & date of birth.
Images can contain information that allows predators to track children, for example, the child’s school or uniform, or the street name of the family home,  while geotags can track the child’s real-time location.

"By combining this with other information, (perhaps gained through phishing or on the Dark Web through data breaches), malicious actors can steal the child’s identity ....
Another potential consequence is unwitting exposure to child predators. "

I am committed to doing my PT though-- as motivation, I can listen to the Foreign Affairs podcast while I do.
The news is dreadful, but it's weirdly encouraging to listen to smart people talk about complex issues.
We're not all idiots.

  1. I remember a time long ago when the internet was new. I frequented an online forum for young moms. One woman posted pics of her kids while potty training.
First, WHY?? Second, she was sickened at then getting messages from pedos. What did she expect?
Sorry, that's probably more gross than the wad of hair extracted from your drain. Thanks for not posting pics ;)

    1. LOL. You're welcome.
But yeah, reading about child predators is disturbing. (And you don't necessarily even know they're using your kids' photos...)
The internet is a portal for sickness--
as well as fantastically fabulous individuals.

  2. it's amazing how much hair can accumulate in a drain. last year i reported that my drain was so slow and the plumber came out and snaked it. it was unbelievable how much better the drain worked afterwards. and never use the chemicals!!!! it's amazing how much a better draining drain changes your life!!
by the way, are the gloria steinem and dustry springfield books still available? i know you're not there today but if they are there on Monday, i'd love them.

    1. Yes—Ever since I wrote about the history of toilets in sewers, I’ve been aware of that good drainage is our best friend!

      I’ll check for the books.

  3. So pissed of with males doing shit things ruining everyone's lives. I find myself listening to female reporters and interviews more frequently - intentionally. Love Fiona Hill - thank you for that. The more we know ...The internet is still the wild west of sickos. Blogworld seems to be the best thing at the moment. We have some measure of control and it's not like thousands tune in. Hardly! Cutting myself off feels great- brain health- improvement of attention span - I see no downside to dumping as much as possible. Clearing the pipes, so to speak.

    2. PS. Check your stats – – you probably get a lot more “views” than you realize.
      Mostly bots and the like.

Mine got 8,000 views last week. These are not human readers who are interested in dolls…

  4. Great exercise poem, thank you for reminding me. I need to find my A.A.Milne books. And yes, thankful there are non-evil smart people to learn from. Very quiet here as the dog has an injured leg and has to be monitored to prevent re-injury. Responsibility for another life form can be daunting.

    1. I’m sorry your dog is hurt! Having an injured leg myself, I feel especially sympathetic. I guess that’s one reason I don’t have pets though – – as you say responsibility for another life form can be daunting!
