‘Winter Village’

It cracks me up, what the Girlettes come up with – – like, their name for their Christmas set-up this year – – ‘Winter Village’. Where do they get this stuff?

I was thinking I had to make it really elaborate for them, but I’ve just been sticking odds and ends in – – and then, it snowed for them! (They have snow but we are having a brown and cold December.)

You can see in the background the Christmas print I started – – I did add green and that makes it a lot better, but I’ve only made a few of them. I actually ended up sending a bunch of commercial cards. I’ve been a little disheartened at what a messy printer I am, no matter how careful I am. I always get smudges on the cards. Finally I decided just not to worry about it! They’re still nicer than commercial cards. Can an AI design a uniquely smudged card? (Well… probably.)

  1. winter village indeed! smudges tell us that a real person created them and to me add to the imperfection of handmade. ugh, i do not like ai designed art -- looks to cold and impersonal to me.

  2. AI may be clever at deigns but can not print for real with smudges and texture so you have got it beat to bits. Take that AI!! Winter village looks like fun - they want to skate I think, and have a snow ball desert.

  3. the bear with the red ornament and square of green background is great. Why would smudges be an issue - more of a hallmark of the artist.,

  4. I love me some smudges, they're human!
I gave up on Homegrown before the trial. Like you, I was interested in what drove Tim McV to be so focused and meticulous enough to carry out the bombing. He was a "model soldier" until... he wasn't.

  5. I've thought more about the smudges. printmaking is a lot like stenciling. I think the trick can be to remove it up from the paper rather than pulling it away if that makes sense. but smudges are okay.! Like abby says, they-re human.
