Quirky Thrift

ABOVE: nodding salt and pepper shakers, made in Japan. Their  heads rest--and rock--on the neck wedges. A tube extending down from the head holds s + p, which shakes out through the nostrils (!).

BELOW: Note says china was given "to Henry and Lena Yackel approx 1935"
BELOW: Pine cone owls

BELOW: Handpainted squirrel on wood I put up on the housewares' work wall, and the book cover with the teddy bear, Defy the Night

Not quirky... BELOW: Pottery tea pots and canister;

  1. crafts gone bad (owls but not the squirrel) and cows spouting salt and pepper: fun times in the thrift world! the teapots are exquisite! love the pottery canister.
    you found the book cover!!! when i look at the cover, it almost looks like the one arm was added later.

    2. Yes—this is the delight of my work!
      I honestly wasn’t sure if they’re cows or pigs…

  2. Holdup. The pig/cow S+P shakers are conjoined? Quirky indeed.
    I'd like me one of those ceramic teapots, though!

    1. Isn’t that whacky? Their heads operate separately.
      The teapots were beautiful and sold right away

  3. The handmade teapots may have a stamp or signature on the bottom...that could possibly be identified

    1. Yes, they did! But I didn’t take the time to look them up – – I just price them $10 each which is high for our store – – and they all sold within the day

    3. I only saw one of them being bought – – and the woman was really pleased with it, I imagine the other ones were too!

  4. i do wish my local thrifts would get stuff of this quality (the tea pots and china).
    pricing at $10 was good especially after finding all the stuff the other guy was squirreling away!!

    1. In truth, we don’t really get that much of it – – I highlighted – – and I actually think some of my coworkers have been throwing some of the kooky stuff out – – they certainly would’ve thrown out those owl pinecones
