I just ordered a turkey breast from Clancy's, a small butcher shop that carries organic meats from local farms. It is implied that the farmers raise Thanksgiving turkeys practically as hand-fed pets, though I gather "free-range" doesn't really signify bliss.
Still, one hopes the birds' conditions are a bit less concentration-camp-like than those of their cousins who only cost .79 cents a pound, since we are paying enough per pound to put these birds up in a hotel room.
