Amy S. on IG requested Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass" for this week's www.instagram.com/explore/tags/toysrecreatepaintings.
"I know it's PG-13", she said, "so we could offer an alternative of 'any Impressionist painting'".
I wouldn't care if she requested an X-rated painting, I just don't like "Lunch on the Grass"; but I was happy someone else chose a painting.
I said sure, but I suggested an alternative alternative ("any Impressionist painting" being a bit too broad):
"The Bar at the Folies-Bergère", also by Manet (at the Courtauld. Hey, a reason to go to London!).
The young person looks overheated and miserable, like a lobster in hot water, but I always loved the oranges with all the blue velvet.
Here's my invitation: hop on in, if it appeals!
Oh! I just noticed a detail--the green boots of an acrobat on a swing
(circled in pink, upper left). I want to do her for my recreation. Maybe she's one of the girls in Renoir's Acrobat Girls with Oranges.

Seven of us posted interpretations of a Frida Kahlo self-portrait.
One less person than last week's "Girl with a Pearl Earring".
Interesting two people chose "Self-Portrait in a Medallion":
Sarah (top center (but off-center), and my sister (center row, far right).
Amy S. (bottom left) ^ did "The Two Fridas";
bink (bottom row, center) "Frida with Monkey & Parrot", and that's mine, far right.
For some reason my final girlettes in parrot & monkey costumes (here) didn't post to the round-up, but I like the dinosaur and rubber bug better anyway. I'd just thrown it together.
Sometimes fast and free works best. I doubt I'll come up with anything better than the orange scissor hands as stand-ins for the Folies-Bergère oranges.
And Advil for absinthe. :)
